Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is one of the procedures that does most to freshen up the eyes. Here are the answers to the questions we are asked most often.

What does it involve?

  • Upper blepharoplasty: excess skin is removed together with the orbicularis muscle and, in some cases, the fat pad.
  • Lower blepharoplasty: the fat pads of the lower eyelid are removed, with or without a small amount of skin.

What anaesthesia is used?

It is done under local anaesthetic and, if the patient wishes, with light sedation. It is an outpatient procedure.

How long does it take?

Between one and three hours.

How long is the recovery?

Recovery usually takes 5 to 7 days.

Is the scar noticeable?

The scar sits within the natural folds of the eyelid, so it is usually hard to see.
